Laval, an island of many flavours
In this lecture-discussion, we'll take a general look at Laval's agriculture and food industry, from the agricultural development of the island with the arrival of the original families, to the urbanization and industrialization processes that the island underwent throughout the 20th century. What vegetables and fruits are characteristic of Laval's production? Which families, congregations, organizations or flagship companies are involved in market gardening, dairy production and horticulture? What activities and initiatives today represent Laval on the local and, more broadly, provincial scene? These are the questions addressed by Rose-Hélène Coulombe and Michel Jutras in their study Laval, une île aux multiples saveurs (2015), produced as part of Ville de Laval's 50th anniversary celebrations with the support of the Table de concertation agroalimentaire de Laval.

Our in-house host Maxime will be on hand to lead the discussion with his infectious good humor. As eclectic as he is passionate, he makes it a point of honor to make our collective heritage accessible to all, without any headaches. To quote him: “History doesn't mess with Papineau's head!”
