Prehistoric Fishing Techniques: From Line to Net

Long before modern fishing rods, Indigenous peoples had developed a whole array of ingenious tools to draw sustenance from rivers and lakes. During this interactive talk, dive into the fascinating world of the prehistoric fishing toolkit: how these tools were made, how they were used, and how these techniques evolved alongside available resources and changing ways of life.

Thanks to experimental archaeology, you won’t just sit and listen: you’ll have the opportunity to handle replicas of archaeological artifacts and witness authentic technical demonstrations. A hands-on and engaging way to reconnect with ancestral knowledge and skills.

Speaker

With a background in anthropology from the Université de Montréal and a specialization in prehistoric archaeology, Martin Lominy is a museum educator and anthropology instructor. Passionate about Indigenous technologies, he founded Abotec in 2005, a company dedicated to reproducing artifacts and providing archaeology education for schools, museums, universities, research groups, and Indigenous communities.
