The Story in Snips: The Epic of Stone Artisans in Laval

At Cap-Saint-Martin and Canton Bélanger, every chisel and plane holds the skills and stories of the artisans who shaped Laval, stone by stone.

During this talk, Réjean Paquette invites you to explore the fascinating world of stonemasons. Descended from a long line of craftsmen, he passionately shares the stories, techniques, and gestures of the men and women who practiced this trade in the 20th century. From local quarries to stonemasons’ songs, and from the precise movements of blacksmiths to those of masons, you will dive into a living, rich, and surprising heritage.

Coffee and snacks will be provided to accompany this exchange, led by our in-house host Maxime, whose infectious cheer makes our shared heritage accessible to all, without fuss. As he likes to say: “History at Papineau doesn’t give you a headache!”

Psst… did you know? Your ticket also includes a self-guided visit of both exhibitions. Arrive early to explore them before the talk!
