Archaeology in Laval: The Best Stories Come in Small Pots

Why does a 19th-century resident’s spittoon end up in a display case at the André-Benjamin-Papineau House? Mystery… but rest assured, there’s a story behind it.

During this talk, Justine Bourguignon-Tétreault, a guest archaeologist, invites you to explore the fascinating world of historical objects and discover what they reveal about the people who used them. It’s a chance to look at the past differently—and realize that objects do speak, if you take the time to listen.

Coffee and snacks will be provided to accompany this exchange, hosted by our in-house facilitator Maxime, whose infectious cheer makes our shared heritage accessible to everyone, without fuss. As he likes to say: “History at Papineau doesn’t give you a headache!”

Psst… did you know? Your ticket also includes a self-guided visit of both exhibitions. Arrive from 6:00 PM to explore them before the talk!

Justine Bourguignon-Tétreault, an archaeologist active in the Montreal region for over ten years (and in Laval since 2019), will also share her insightful perspective on these material traces of the past.
