Are Laval and Montreal One and the Same?"
Is Laval part of Montreal? Since the 1960s, Île Jésus has evolved between a metropolitan vision and the desire to forge its own identity.
Drawing on the Horizon 2000 plan imagined by Montreal urban planners in 1967, this talk explores the major stages of Laval’s urban development, the ambitions of the time, and what was ultimately built over the following decades.
Between dependence on the metropolis and autonomous development, how did Laval take the shape we know today? And what can its history tell us about its relationship with Montreal?
Speaker
Frédéric Mercure Jolette is a philosophy professor at Trois-Rivières CEGEP and a postdoctoral researcher at the CHCQ. His research focuses on the history of urbanization and political ideas related to the city.
