Agriculture: In Memory of the People and Their Tools

The conference The Man, the Tool, the Gesture and the Memory pays tribute to the agricultural world through the story of Roméo, a passionate ploughman who devoted 56 years of his life to working the land.

Through a rich visual presentation, personal accounts, and an exploration of traditional tools and techniques, this event immerses participants in the world of rural trades and the knowledge passed down from generation to generation. It highlights the deep connection between people and the land while inviting participants to share their own agricultural memories, creating a space for intergenerational exchange.

More than just a presentation, this conference celebrates the living memory of farmers and the importance of preserving this heritage, an essential part of our collective history.

Speaker

Born in 1947 in Huntingdon, Robert Payant has been a storyteller, author, and living heritage facilitator for several decades, both in Quebec and France. With more than 500 performances and some fifteen published books to his name, he has dedicated himself to preserving and promoting rural memory, oral traditions, and regional history.

Recognized as an authentic village storyteller, he was honoured in 2000 by the Société du patrimoine d’expression du Québec for thirty years of volunteer work devoted to passing on this living heritage.
